Representation

A group that I may want to represent in my film opening would be teenagers in everyday life. I chose this group because the media gives them a poor connotation. They are typically represented in the media to be moody, immature, trouble making young adults who are reckless and have a negative perspective on life. Because of this many adults may believe that all younger people have bad intentions, when in reality there is a large amount who don't and would like to make a difference in the world like Emma Gonzalez.
I believe to an extent these stereotypes and representations are fair. Yes, there are many teenagers in the world who are moody and rebellious, but on the contrary there are even more trying to positively impact society. These representative characteristics gives uneducated adults a faulty idea of how teenagers behave in everyday life and just encourage poor judgement. But hopefully through my film opening, I can correct these false beliefs.
The characteristics I wish to challenge would be those that portray teenagers to be lazy and unaware of the world around them. Instead I would like to highlight how nowadays teenagers are taking stand for what they believe in to better living for themselves and others. Even though they are not yet adults, that does not mean they aren't mature enough to form their own opinions. But characteristics I would retain would be how teenagers are moody and indecisive because that is true in most cases since they haven't experienced much in life to completely understand what is in their best interest.

Romantic Comedy

Genre: Romantic Comedy
Content: A light-hearted film with little to no effects. These films typically showcase character development through the effects of a relationship. Usually, there is the main conflict that creates a strain on the newfound relationship, but later becomes resolved to leave a happy ending in the movie.
Production Techniques: Two shots are most commonly used to display the relationship between the two characters. Montages are used to highlight the relationship development between the characters during or post-break-up. Medium shots are also used to express the body language between two characters. This allows the audience to understand the nature of the relationship. As for Mise-en-scene, lighting and set design will be kept very natural to portray a sense of realism. Sometimes high-key lighting is used to portray a more happy scene to display the excitement of a new relationship. Colors that may be used with Mise-en-scene could be red because it represents passion and love which could correlate to the passion and love the characters may have for each other. Editing is kept very natural as well, to emphasize on the realistic style but crosscutting may be used to show two segments within the story happening at the same time.
Film Sample #1: 50 First Dates. This movie portrays the romantic element through the new budding love between the two main characters. Then shows the comedic side through the woman having a short term memory loss so the man in love with her has to convince her every day to fall in love with him and some days it goes horribly wrong but in a comedic way. This movie utilizes an abundance of two shots and medium shots and is used continuously throughout the film to display the development of their relationship.
Film Sample #2: Clueless. This movie portrays the romantic element through a teenage main character in high school on a never-ending journey to find a love interest. Then displays the comedic element through the conflict faced by not finding the perfect boy for her and the effects of it. This movie uses realistic Mise-en-scene to portray how a wealthy teenage girl would look from Beverly Hills in the 1990s would look. Along with the set up of the school, it is also realistic with it mirroring a real classroom with desks, boards and school supplies. Medium shots are also most commonly used to show the body language of the characters and the development in their relationships.
